Why look for a Crisp alternative
Crisp earned its place among European startups and SMBs as a more affordable, more pleasant alternative to Intercom: a shared inbox that brings web chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger into a single tray, with the added reassurance of being a French company and therefore appealing to anyone who prioritizes EU data residency. It is a well-built tool, and its free plan is among the most generous on the market because it includes several channels —WhatsApp among them— at no cost. The reason many teams start looking at alternatives is not Crisp’s quality but its nature: Crisp is designed for people to handle conversations, not for an AI to resolve them on its own. Its AI layer (CrispGPT, MagicReply) assists the human agent by suggesting replies, but it does not replace the team or carry a sale from start to finish. On top of that comes a very concrete cost friction: the jump between tiers is steep. You go from the free plan to Pro at around $25/mo, but the next step, Unlimited, sits near $95/mo, and the Plus enterprise plan starts around 295 € per month. For a small business that is growing, that jump can arrive sooner than expected, and what you get in return is still, in essence, an inbox your people have to staff.
